Cooling and heating - from symptom to cause

This section joins two related systems: engine cooling and cabin comfort - the air conditioner and the heater. Workshops list services for refrigerant recharge, leak detection, radiator flushing and restoration, and compressor repair.

The AC is not cooling

The most common summer request is a freon recharge - but refrigerant does not deplete on its own. If the system was already refilled once and the cold disappeared again, there is a leak somewhere: finding and fixing it must come before another refill, or the money quite literally evaporates. A separate story is an unpleasant smell when the AC starts - that is solved by cleaning the evaporator, not by refrigerant.

Heating and overheating

A cold heater in winter points to three typical causes: an air lock in the system, a clogged heater core or a faulty thermostat. Engine overheating is the opposite problem and tolerates no waiting - stop and find the cause before the expensive consequences arrive. In both cases a system flush is often enough; when a radiator is beyond saving, a new or used water radiator can be found in the parts section.

What to clarify when calling a workshop

Describe the exact picture: when the problem shows - in traffic or on the highway, on a cold or warm engine, whether it cools at idle. Mention whether the antifreeze was changed recently and which parts have already been touched. For partial jobs - say, replacing the compressor or a radiator - many drivers start by buying air conditioner and heater parts in advance; agree that option with the workshop beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

A healthy system keeps its refrigerant for years - needing frequent refills is a sign of a leak. In that case the system should be checked first and recharged after.
