The most common job - adapting a used unit

An ECU taken from another car mostly will not run by simply plugging it in: it is married to the previous car's immobilizer and treats yours as foreign. The programmer adapts the unit to your car - a routine, widespread procedure that turns buying a used unit into a fully viable route. The same goes for keys - key programming is its own direction.

Coding - features already sitting in the car

Many functions ship disabled from the factory and are switched on by coding: lighting scenarios, comfort details, screen menus. The reverse direction works too - fixing a function that throws errors but is really just misconfigured. What is possible on your model depends on the specific platform - ask the specialist about your year and trim.

Before flashing - a backup

The main rule of software work: a copy of the existing software is saved before any change, and power must stay stable during the process - a voltage drop during flashing damages the unit. When choosing a specialist, ask whether they work with your specific make: universalists are rare in programming, and a good one names their platforms precisely.
